HANNAH KIM
SELECTED WORKS 2020-2024

I am an architectural designer based in NYC. My interests lie in architecture's relationship to technology, art, and worldbuilding.

This interest has pushed me to constantly think of how our ever-evolving culture and tools demand us to constantly re-represent and re-occupy the built world in new ways.

06 THE HOUSE AS A SET
2021_Pratt Institute

STUDIO: Thesis Research
PROJECT TYPOLOGY: Research and Speculation
PROJECT PHASE: Design
PROJECT PROGRAMS: Rhino, VRay, Twinmotion, Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects
The architecture of the domestic exerts its power onto its occupants through the ordinary. It becomes a stage where it forces its occupants to perform on. It becomes a set where in every room has a main character or protagonist. this proposition will subvert the ordinary in the nuclear domestic by using the method of the unheimlich and uncanny in its orthographic makeup.

This architectural proposition strives to adopt the way the house functions and controls without necessarily applying it to a housing typology. Can dwelling exist in a space not called home? It wants to explore how the architecture of the set itself influences the performance of its actors. How can architecture control or deconstruct the behavior or desires of its performers?

Using the Farnsworth House as a research precedent, I explore how to answer the questions posed.
